ICSI involves injecting a single sperm cell into a matured oocyte, culturing the injected egg until it divides, with the intent to produce a viable embryo. This innovative technique has a high chance of fertilization, despite the sperm quality or quantity. ICSI is often the preferred route for rare and high-performance horses where horse owners and breeders hope to help the genetics live on through many generations to come.
Our team is committed to our clients and their breeding programs by ensuring a seamless process from the time oocytes are received until the end of the ICSI cycle. We work with your veterinary clinic at aspiration, connect with stallion owners for semen approvals, and coordinate the embryo pick-up process, whether thawed or fresh. We believe in providing the highest quality service, from our client connections to the embryos that are produced.
ICSI will keep the horses out for a minimal amount of time. That means they can go back to their normal routine in no time.
If a mare has chronic infections or fertility issues, ICSI is a safe and effective option for breeding.
For older or lame mares who can no longer be bred conventionally, ICSI presents an opportunity.
It can also maximize the use of low-count or low-quality semen.
It also ensures a mare will be ready for a fresh embryo or have an embryo thawed.
ICSI can be done at any time of year. That means clients can have embryos vitrified in preparation for breeding season.

THE ICSI PROCESS
STEP 1
Oocytes are extracted from the mare.
STEP 2
The oocytes mature in a safe and secure environment.
STEP 3
A sperm sample is taken.
STEP 4
The sperm cell is inserted into the oocyte.
STEP 5
The oocyte will spend the next few days culturing to become an embryo.
STEP 6
The embryo can be transferred to a mare or stored for the future.
