Tofu came into our lives by accident, and he’s been family ever since.
My friend Jeff had twin babies who were born early and spent their first weeks in the ICU on respirators. While they were there, the doctors told Jeff and his wife that the twins were allergic to dogs. Tofu had to go.
One night Jeff came over to play pool. Partway through the game he broke down crying. He couldn’t believe he had to give up his dog. He asked if I could keep Tofu, just for the night, while he figured things out.
Tofu never left. That one night turned into years of walks, couch naps, and a dog who made our house a home.
The twins are healthy now, and they’ve grown out of their allergy. Jeff has never stopped missing Tofu. So we’ve decided to do something about it. We preserved Tofu’s genetics with Viagen, and we’re saving our money so that one day we can give Jeff and his kids a clone of Tofu. That way the dog he had to give up can come home to his family again, and the twins can finally grow up with him.
